It's Getting Close...

I have 24 (ish) other things I really need to be doing right now.  My awesome couch nap was interrupted by a 3 year old who is excessively tired, but luckily her dad is home and has taken that over.  Other things on our list of great things to get done today include: make salsa with my overripe tomatoes (all 42 of them), vacuum, scrub, and wash the car before we put it up for sale asap, conquer the mountains of laundry that somehow we acquire whilst doing multiple loads daily, finish packing my hospital bag (might want to get on that), unload the dishwasher, wash the guest sheets, and clean the bathroom thoroughly.  Okay, there's probably more, but that was enough to make my head hurt.  Oh yeah, and NAME THE BABY.  No rush though, right? Right.

Perhaps the most difficult thing about naming the baby this go around is that we obviously don't know if he or she is a boy or girl.  And if you are an english/grammar nerd like I am then you clearly always have to say he or she (or it, which some are opposed to when speaking of a baby.  I am not.) and definitely not THEY because they implies plural and we are only having one baby.  Okay, several of you may have to just skip that last tangent and I apologize for my ridiculousness, but it was drilled into me by my teachers and cannot be undone.

So our best guess is... to have two names.  Or you can pretend like me from day to day that we know and think one day it's a boy and another day it's a girl.  Or for fun, here are what the wives tales say:

Old Wives Tale:  Heart Rate
If the baby’s heart rate is above 140 bpm, it is said that the baby will be a girl.  If it is under 140 bpm, then it will be a boy.
It's been 160, 150 and 140 multiple times during exams and ultrasounds.  Amelia was in the 160's and Levi was in the low 150's.  Initial guess with this OWT is GIRL as it was in the 170's early on.

Old Wives Tale:  Shape of Belly
If you are carrying high with a big, round belly, you are having a girl.  If you are carrying low with a smaller belly that sticks straight out, it’s a boy.
Carrying high and round, but belly sticks straight out.  Since findings are contradictory, no guess.

Old Wives Tale:  Ring Test
Using a string, hang your wedding ring over your pregnant belly.  You are having a girl if the ring swings back and forth  and it’s a boy if it swings in a circle.
This test was done on me once pre-Amelia and just this spring also.  Both said pattern of Girl, Boy, Girl, Boy.  OWT says GIRL.

Old Wives Tale:  Shape of Mom’s Face
When your face gets fuller and rounder when pregnant, it means you’re going to have a girl.  If your face is long and narrow, it’s a boy.
I don't think my face has gotten any fuller this time(amazingly), so BOY.  Also, true with Levi.

Old Wives Tale:  Mayan Tale
The Mayan tale adds the mothers age at conception and the year of conception.  If the result is a even number then mom is having a girl.  If the result is an odd number then a boy is on the way!
29+2011=2040.  OWT says GIRL.

Old Wives Tale:  Drano Test
The drano test combines a tablespoon of Drano and urine together.  If the mixture turns green, it’s a girl.  If it turns blue, it’s a boy.
I didn't do this because Hello! Drano is expensive, but I did do the baking soda test.  It said GIRL.

Old Wives Tale:  Acne
If you have acne while pregnant, it’s a girl.  It’s thought that acne during pregnancy is caused by the extra hormones.
Well, initially more so, but overall no.  I'd say this points to BOY.

Old Wives Tale:  Cravings
People believe that if you are craving salty foods while pregnant, you can count on having a boy.  If you crave sweets, fruit, and orange juice, you are having a little girl.
No real cravings.  Although, I almost always favor sweeter things over salty.  I'm going to call this inconclusive.

Old Wives Tale:  Skin under Left Eye
The eye test is when a “V” or “branches” appear when you pull down the skin under your left eye.  If you see a “V” or “branches” in the white part, you’re having a girl.
I can't really tell, so I'm saying this says BOY.

Old Wives Tale:  Previous Kids
This tale only applies if you have had previous kids.  If you have and that child’s first word was momma, you will have a girl.  If your first child’s first word was dadda, you’ll have a boy.
Interesting:  Amelia said Dada first and Levi said Mama.  OWT says GIRL.

Old Wives Tale:  History of Parent’s Kids
You can find out the sex by going off of your parent’s kids and the order.  If you are the first born, you will have what your mother had but starting with her second child.  If you are the middle child, you will have what she had, but starting with the third child.  If you are the last child, you will have what your mother had in the exact order.
Huh?  Does not appear to hold true for Andrew or myself.  I had to read that like 8 times.

Old Wives Tale:  Legs
If your legs get really big, you’re having a boy.  If your legs stay in shape and lean, it’s a girl.
Legs looking gooood.  Haha, just kidding, but not thicker to my knowledge.  GIRL.

Old Wives Tale:  Moodiness
If you are really moody, you are having a girl since you have another extra girl hormones in you.  Your pregnancy will make you smile and be more happy if you are having a boy.
If this is an indicator this is totally a GIRL.  Wowza.

Old Wives Tale:  Bread
If you eat the ends of bread, it’s a boy.  If you eat the middle of the load, it’s a girl.
I love the ends of bread, well most bread.  Point for a BOY!

Old Wives Tale:  Chinese Gender Chart
The Chinese Gender Chart claims to have an accuracy rate of over 90%.  It is based on how old the mother is at conception and the month that she conceived.
Chinese Gender Chart says BOY!

Old Wives Tale:  Mom’s Beauty
Basically you are having a girl if your beauty disappears during pregnancy.  It is said that the girl “steals” the mother’s beauty.  If you think that pregnancy has never made you look more beautiful, you might just be having a little boy.
Well, I'm not sure that anyone feels super gorgeous during pregnancy, but I didn't feel as frumpy as I could have.  Sign of a BOY.

Old Wives Tale:  Clumsy vs. Graceful
If the pregnant woman is graceful throughout her pregnancy, she’s having a girl.  If she becomes clumsy, she’s having a boy.
BOY.

Old Wives Tale:  Toddlers
If a toddler boy expresses interest in a pregnant woman, she is having a girl.  If he doesn’t show interest, she’s having a boy.
GIRL, maybe?  Somewhat interested...

Old Wives Tale:  Side You Most Rest On
If a pregnant woman prefers to lay on her left side, she’s having a boy.  If she prefers resting on her right side, she’s having a girl.
BOY.

Old Wives Tale:  What Do You Think?
71% of the time, the mom-to-be knows what she is having.
I think it's a GIRL.

Old Wives Tale:  Morning Sickness
If you had a smooth pregnancy with no morning sickness, it’s a boy.  If you were sick or felt really nauseous during your pregnancy, count on a girl.
Not a morning sickness type of gal, but some nauseousness.  No indication for either gender I say.

Old Wives Tale:  Protein
When a pregnant woman craves meat and cheese, count on a boy.
Hmm, not meat as much.  I like cheese.
BOY?

Old Wives Tale:  Feet
Are your feet colder now that you are pregnant?  If so, you just might be having a boy.  If your feet have stayed the same before pregnancy and during, you’re having a little girl.
No change = GIRL.

Old Wives Tale:  Hair on Legs
If the hair on your legs has been growing at record speeds, you might be having a boy.
Thank God, no.  GIRL.

Old Wives Tale:  Hands are Dry
If your hands are constantly dry, it’s a boy.
BOY.

Old Wives Tale:  Nose
Do you feel like your nose is growing and getting wider?  If so, you might be having a boy.
GIRL.

Old Wives Tale:  Headaches
If you are having headaches, you might be carrying a boy.
The worst headaches I've ever had were when I was pregnant with Amelia.  Minimal headaches this time though.  Inconclusive.

Old Wives Tale:  Baby Names
It is said that when you can only think of specific names for a boy or a girl, you will have that particularly baby.
Well, apparently this is a false pregnancy.  We will not have either a boy or a girl since we cannot name him or her.  Sigh.

So, my ending count is 12 points for girl and 10 for boy.  Pretty darn close and as Andrew always says there's a 50/50 chance so sometimes the old wives tales will be right and sometimes not.  But it's entertaining I suppose.  Now, if you haven't already entered a guess on our baby pool on the right you should do so.  I'd love to know your guesses too.  Alright, time for me to knock some stuff off the to-do list.  Cheers!
